Wow, what a blessing these two teams have been to the Escuela Caribe staff and students! They poured into us as we have walked out our first few weeks of summer. The pictures below are just a snapshot of a few of the summer highlights!

For the summer, the students begin each day with a little hike (10 minute walk) at 6 a.m. to do group devotions at a beautiful spot that overlooks Jarabacoa.

I don't think that this photo does the devo location justice, but you get the picture.

During the first week of MVA, Kingdom Builders Ministries (KBM) led a special youth group for the students complete with a time of testimonies, singing, praising and coke floats. It was a beautiful thing to watch the college aged, discipleship students of KBM interact with, pray for and touch the heart of our students in a powerful way. We ate together, talked together, wrestled together and prayed together.

During the second week of MVA, the Escuela Caribe students led a youth group for Escuela Caribe, Sungrove, and KBM. Let me just tell you, the Escuela Caribe students did AWESOME! Their hearts were to serve the other teams who had both poured into them so much. Jay was the MC for the evening and did a fabulous job of keeping things moving, introducing speakers, and keeping everything light-hearted. Many of the students, Nina, Nancy, Lauren P., Melanie, Cody and Marcel, chose to share their testimonies, which was HUGE for many of them. Their stories were such a blessing to the group and many of the visiting team members commented on how touched they were. It was an amazing night!
Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos on this night. I did take a video on my ipod from the casita road in front of my house where you could hear praises ringing from the inside of my house, but I can't get it to load right now!!! What you need to know is that this night was a VERY SPECIAL night!

During that same week, Escuela Caribe staff and students along with the Sungrove youth group headed off to San Cristobal, where we served a local church by cleaning up and painting for them in their conference center. It was very hot and tiring, but our students did amazingly well!
There are several new students who just arrived in time for this trip, and wow, what an introduction to the Dominican Republic will they get. Meanwhile, the female students are headed out for a fun afternoon at a Salon getting their hairs done. However, this time next week, they will be in the great outdoors!Escuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-64567575759112918452011-06-15T18:15:00.001-04:002011-06-15T18:15:30.469-04:00New summer program photos are herecheck out the web site to see our new summer photos of all the kids.
They are amazing.
--
Cindy Hundley MA, EMT
Escuela Caribe Medical Services Manager
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, West IndiesEscuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-3569286878122615922011-06-06T13:36:00.000-04:002011-06-06T13:36:37.498-04:00Weekend Review June 4, 5The weekends at Escuela Caribe have been shortened by one day for the summer program, which officially began today. Not to worry, in place of 1 free day a week, the students will have MANY opportunities for service projects, exploring the island, etc.

In a future blog, I will highlight more information about the summer program, but for now, let's review the most recent weekend.

Saturday Night Family Unity:

Lance house girls grilled steaks and watched the movie "Remember the Dogmen."

TKB boys played a game where they dressed up like someone on campus and put on a skit until the other house mates guessed the mystery person. They also played hide -n- go seek in the dark, and "vegged" out on banana peanut butter cake and snickerdoodles.

Sunday Afternoon:

Lance house played basketball and later in the evening played cards.

TKB boys had a Corn Hole tournament. (The Championship game is to be played tomorrow night between The Cofield's and Brian and Cody). They boys helped to make Mall Pretzels for a snack, followed by board games and chill time.

The girls at Lance house enjoyed another fabulous Dominican meal, beef guisado take 2, prepared by Nina! After wards, the Geyers and dinner guests, Grant Anderson and Jessica Sullivan, taught the girls how to play the card game pinnacle.

TKB played Cranium with 2 teams and "stuffed our faces with desserts (mini cheesecakes, banana wafer pudding, and popcorn), " according to housemom Leah Cofield.

Sunday afternoon:

Lance house continued with their card playing frenzy and played spades, gin, pinnacle and various other card games.

TKB boys played basketball, hockey and ping-pong.

Monday free day:

Lance house worked in the garden, played cards, went into town for lunch at a Dominican restaurant called Rico NeNe's. In the evening, Mr. Anderson came for dinner again and everyone enjoyed orange chicken. Most nights the girls have been doing group devotionals in which they study the bible together and have a discussion.

TKB got to sleep in and lounge in their PJ's. They had a big brunch (blueberry muffins, peach braid, pancakes, bacon, fruit) and then caramel popcorn while they watched G-Force. Later, some of the boys worked out, while others played board games. They also went into town so they could shop, then had a corn hole tournament, which Brian and Cody won.

Last week all of the students worked really hard doing projects around the Escuela Caribe campus during work week. They scrubbed and painted the outside of many of the buildings on lower campus, and worked in the flowerbeds pulling weeds and beautifying the lower campus. Here are some photos I snapped of some of them as they were walking by (transferring loads of banana bread for incoming mission teams to another freezer) as I was pulling out of the parking lot :) (Yes, you can think of me as the Escuela Caribe Papparazi! I pop out of unexpected places with my camera ready to photograph the students!)
And now, full steam ahead for summer! The summer program officially begins on Monday. In the near future, I will highlight some of the upcoming activities, which are focused on serving Dominicans and those around us, understanding and appreciating the host culture through various kinds of interactions, working alongside incoming, short term mission teams and learning about and enjoying many of the sights this island has to offer. It should be a glorious time of growth for all involved!Escuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-82371090942116455042011-05-25T14:26:00.000-04:002011-05-25T14:26:35.348-04:00Weekend Review May 21, 22, 23Saturday Night Family Unity:
Lance House: Nancy and Nina cooked a fabulous Dominican dinner of beef guisado and then the girls played monopoly.

TKB: The boys made brownie ice cream sundaes and did kareoke. I hear that there was LOTS of laughing.

Sunday Afternoon:
Lance house hosted a slip-n-slide for local Dominican children (+ staff kids) and had a hair washing station. (I will post pictures of this in a separate blog in the near future!)

TKB house played basketball and lifted weights.

Monday Freeday:
Lance house had a quiet, lazy day. They had a late breakfast of biscuits and gravy and then played spades and did hair and make-up. They had orange chicken for dinner and watched the movie "What about Bob."

TKB boys picked up trash along a stretch of the road in Jarabacoa. They picked up ten 30 gallon containers of trash in about a 1 mile area! They had lunch in the park, and played basketball with Dominicans in town. Later in the evening, they played a good ol' fashioned game of hide-and-seek.Escuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-59850415560841810192011-05-21T10:08:00.001-04:002011-05-21T10:08:51.170-04:00new photos: a lot of themDear Parents,
Easter photos are up as well as some other photos: please check out
the photos as I think you will like them a lot.
Lance house went to a movie night at the house of Kate Grey, who is a volunteer math/science tutor at Escuela Caribe, who has 7 children of her own, and still manages to do a Saturday night movie ministry for Dominican kids who live around the Gray house. I think you might be very interested to click here to find out more about this particular evening, in which the movie night was hosted for the local shoe shine boys.

TKB had a Talent Show in which a wide variety of talents were displayed: guitar playing, Jesus rapping, a hip hop dance, and a one man re-enactment of the Civil War (go Jay!)

Sunday afternoon:

Lance house played kickball, baseball and other games involving a ball with the Dominican children who live immediately around the school. You would be AMAZED to see how many kids live right here on the bumpy, little road up to Escuela Caribe.

TKB played basketball in the afternoon for several hours.

Monday Freeday:

Lance house went to school on Monday, but had their free day on Thursday so that they could go to Kascada Park, a Dominican waterpark in Santiago.

TKB made homemade doughnuts and delivered them to all of the campus in the morning. Then they went to a local orphanage, The Ark, and played with the children there. After that, they cooked a meal for Gloria, a widow that lives just beyond the school, and stayed at her house and visited with her in her home. For dinner, they enjoyed Gilberto's, and there was an impromptu "Make up your own Superhero" contest. Among the contestants, were Old Spice Diamond King, Captain Underpants, Dumbest Superhero, Japanese Warrior, Toilet Paper woman, Toothepaste Warrior, and Iron Man/ Iron Woman.Escuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-65414223033774232552011-05-16T14:28:00.000-04:002011-05-16T14:28:37.846-04:00Retro Post: Silent Football from last Mother's visitA pictoral review of the game Silent Football from the March '11 Mother's visit:
I have been off this week (mother-in-law visit in progress) but I hope you will find the information from last weekend entertaining!

As I am typing this I can hear the boys outside playing basketball on the basketball court, and the girls are down in the front field playing games with local Dominican children. The sun is beaming down and it's a fair bit muggy, but all in all, it's a beautiful day!

*Be forewarned that I'm going to post some pictures that I took from the last Mother's visit soon - most of them were from the Silent Football game where some of you sat nervously and hoped to not suffer humiliation and/or embarrassment. Good times.

Okay, without further rambling on my part, here is the weekend review from last weekend:

Saturday Night Family Unity:
Lance house went to visit one of their housemates who had been sick and was hospitalized.

TBK house had a chinese themed evening in which they dressed up, ate culturally typical food: orange chicken, rice, egg drop soup, and fortune cookies. In addition, they ate on the floor, used chopsticks and played a typical Chinese "tag" game. They were only allowed to speak in Chinese and played a game where they had to decifer a "code" written in Chinese.

Sunday Afternoon:
There was a Good-Bye Reception after church on behalf of Mr. Owen Postma who departed a few days later.

Lance house girls took some initiative and cleaned up around the basketball court, clearing debri and other obstructions (cow patties!) on and around the court. Then they all played basketball.

TKB boys all helped cook lunch for Mother's Day. After that they watched some TV, played boardgames, basketball, and ping-pong. They enjoyed some skim ice after all was said and done.

Monday Freeday:
Lance house had a service project day on the campus. They invited local children to come to campus and play games, and then after wards they cleaned up the Escuela Caribe playground, scrubbing the little tikes slide, repainting the tire obstacle course, clearing debries, etc. (The Sawyer kids totally noticed that this had been done and loved the new brightly painted tires! They were very appreciative.)

TKB took a day trip to Santiago where they walked around the Cathedral and observed while others participated in a Catholic Prayer Service. This was followed by lunch in the park, and shopping on Calle Del Sol. A gourmet dinner was consumed at Burger King, visits to 2 malls were made and there was game playing at an arcade.Escuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-65981475270273944432011-05-08T16:04:00.021-04:002011-05-08T16:33:41.727-04:00One thing I love about my mom is . . . .

This post is LOADED with photos (because I'm a "more is more" type of gal, which likely works in your favor with this blog, hopefully!) Towards the end of the post (mostly because I can't get the photos to load in the order that I want them to!) you will find photos of the "One thing I love about my mom" project. The rest of these photos are from youth group at my house last week, Enjoy!

HAPPPPPPPPY Mother's Day! In case you didn't catch it, below is the link to the EC Mother's Day Slideshow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApLbB5Urn5k

I realized as I was watching the slideshow in church this morning with the students, that some of the hearts are difficult to read either because of pen color choice, fancy and/or messy handwriting, etc. SO, I am posting the pictures below with the captions of what each heart said.

I pray that even with the massive and obvious hole that you feel because of your child being away from home, that you would today be encouraged, knowing that the Lord aims to restore your family, and that you would be enveloped with His mighty love for you and your child. So, without further ado . . . .
Saturday Night Family Unity:
Lance house had a relaxing barbeque dinner with guest staff member, Owen Postma, who will be leaving Escuela Caribe next week.

TKB house had a WORSHIP & WRESTLING event around a bonfire. I could hear shouts of "SHOUT TO THE LORD LET THE EARTH PRAISE HIS NAME!" along with "GET HIM! TAKE HIM DOWN! DON'T QUIT!" from my house just down the hill! The boys had a waterballon war, made smores around the bonfire while singing praise music. Afterwards, the young men were curious if any of them could wrestle their housefather, Steven Cofield, to the ground (oh the minds of testosterone filled teenage boys!) which explains why I heard things like "GET HIM!" drifting down the hill to my house! The answer to the question, "Can any of us take down Mr. Cofield?" is "Only if we all join forces and take him down while his back his turned and he is doing something else!" They each had an individual chance to sort this out, which led them to plot, scheme, distract and gang up on their adversary to accomplish their goal.

Sunday afternoon:
There was a Pasta Potluck following church on Sunday. The students and staff left STUFFED with yummy pastas. In a few days, I will post (because I love you that much!) Leah Cofield's recipe for Cheesy Alfredo sauce and Chris Linehan's Sweet and Spicy Pasta, two of the yummy dishes that were consumed at the potluck.

Later in the afternoon, some of the girls (Carter, Lauren, Melanie) participated in p.e./recreation activities with all of the boys, who played kickball and basketball. The rest of the girls planted various vegetables in the garden.

Monday Freeday (In):
The girls were disappointed that they could not do what was originally planned for this day (horseback riding) because of the rain, and instead had a Lance House Salon where they straightened each other's hair, did makeovers, painted toes & fingers, etc. Mackenzie and Nancy plaed Risk with the Geyers, and the other girls played canasta and cards. They also watched the movies Step Up and Toy Story III (which they all LOVED!)

The boys worked in the yard, watched Toy Story III and enjoyed shishkabobs and homemade caramel corn on their freeday. A good time was had by all!Escuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-73376923622705076352011-04-27T08:54:00.000-04:002011-04-27T08:54:19.618-04:00The Jarabacoa MarathonPossibly the shortest marathon one could ever run, since it is approximately 7 miles as opposed to 26 miles, the Jarabacoa Marathon does not disappoint. Short on distance, but big on scenery and character, the Jarabacoa marathon happens every year just before Easter, and each year Escuela Caribe students and staff, train to run in it.

This year, staff members Miss Adams and Mr. Linehan, along with students Mackenzie, Melanie, Jay, Alex, Cody, Marcel, Miguel and Sam, ran the rocky streets and sun bathed back roads lined with Dominicans eager to cheer them on. The students practiced twice a week for about 6 weeks leading up to the race, and Marcel was Escuela Caribe's fastest participant.

For Marcel, one of the most difficult parts about the race was the fact that on the back roads Dominicans offered "encouragement" in the form of dousing racers with buckets of water as they passed. Since he was "encouraged" early on, he had to run the race in soggy socks and shoes, which literally put a damper on things for him.

However, for Cody and Alex, the random cups and buckets of water offered by the race fans was more of a highlight. Having run the race last year, Alex enjoyed it more this year and even won a t-shirt (along with Marcel and Makenzie). He said that it was more fun with more people from Escuela Caribe running in the marathon this year.

Cody expressed that at one point, a Dominican toddler clothed in only a smile and armed with a small bucket of water, ran out in the road to partake in the ceremonial dousing of runners. Cody really enjoyed running thru the town, though the race was more difficult than he anticipated, he said it was a "once in a life time experience."

Miguel and Cody agreed that their sprint/stop/weeze/sprint strategy was not necessarily the best approach to the race. Miguel was slightly perturbed that the cheering Dominicans on the side of the road were not very obedient when he asked them NOT to spill water on him, and he stated with a grin that the race was a one time deal for him as well.

For Sam, the race was long and hard. He said maybe with some more training he might do it again, but he really enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people. Mr. Yoder, who disciples Sam, ran the last part of the race with him, and so they finished it together.

Jay, with all of his energy and exhuberance, also felt that the race was harder than expected. He felt that the immediate brutal, uphill start right out off the bat was a little extreme, and said that he *maybe* would do the race again if he had a chance.

While Melanie was running the course, she ran across a couple of little Dominican girls whom she had played with during a previous service project out in the community. She said that after they greeted her with big hugs, that they grabbed her by the hands and ran alongside her . . . for about 5 minutes.

Makenzie really enjoyed the race and felt that it was not as hard as she imagined. She said that she could have pushed herself harder, but that the experience in general was very positive. She also enjoyed the encouragement, real encouragement rather than water dousing encouragement, of the Dominican children along the way.

The students did a great job training for and running the Jarabacoa Marathon, and we are very proud of them.

We sure had a full week of things to do and see. I
had written you earlier about the events we would do, but instead of
doing the cross carrying program up our casita, we took the kids into
town on Friday and watched the Dominicans re-enact the whole thing. I
will be posting photos on Picasa soon of this entire week's events.
Then on Saturday the marathon happened which Rachel Sawyer will post
on the blog for you to see. Sunday we woke up and were seated at TKB
on the hill by 6 am. The sun was already peeking over the hills and
then we had a song and Steve Frew preached. We then headed down to
have some movies: Veggie Tales (If you have NEVER watched Veggie
Tales you really are missing out on life) They are great and you
learn a lot from them. The kids then hunted Easter eggs and found
tons of candy inside the plastic egg shells. They began eating all
the candy and really did not have room for the huge breakfast of
french toast, syrup, ham and fruit salad. I had two boys have a
contest though to see how many french toast they could eat. One at 7
and the other one 10. UGH.
The kids returned to their houses and had a nap, and had their own
Easter egg baskets there. In the evening a huge meal was made at each
of the houses and the food was fantastic. They all watched a movie
after that.
On Monday, the girls house did an all day service project by planting
trees and then went to the river and jumped in clothes and all because
they were so dirty. They also went to eat in town and back for
another movie.
The boys hiked Flat Top (mountain to the side of us) and went to the
river and then ate in town and also watched a movie.
I hope your Easter week was just as busy as ours. Photos will be up soon.
--
Cindy Hundley MA, EMT
Escuela Caribe Medical Services Manager
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, West IndiesEscuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-77291062574098955662011-04-20T10:25:00.001-04:002011-04-20T10:25:26.851-04:00weekly update for Sunday and Monday 4/17 and 4/18/11Dear Parents,
We have had a very good week of sunshine and coolness. The students
continue to work on their classes as the trimester is shortly wrapping
up as of May 28th. Our summer program will begin after that and we
will have a different program for all the students during the summer.
This last freeday the boys had a great time riding horses here in
Jarabacoa. I will post photos soon so that you can see what they did.
The girls had a less exciting freeday as they stayed around the house,
worked on each others' hair, painted toe nails and finger nails. They
did have a blast making a slip and slide which they set up on the
inclined soccer field in front of Thomas house.
We are going into the Easter weekend and we will have lots of pictures
to post for you soon. On Friday we will be doing the Stations of the
Cross (carrying a large cross up the casita and doing readings from
the Bible about the Lord's sufferrings. On Saturday several of our
students will participate in the Jarabacoa Marathon (not actually a
marathon) but a 12 mile run. On Sunday we will wake up at 5:30 am and
have a sunrise service below TKB house. We will then have a brunch
down at school, an Easter Egg hunt (eggs filled with candy) and then
in the afternoon a very big Easter dinner. Photos will be posted next
week.
Hope you all have a great Easter.
--
Cindy Hundley MA, EMT
Escuela Caribe Medical Services Manager
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, West IndiesEscuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-78850224251390839562011-04-15T08:59:00.001-04:002011-04-15T08:59:24.843-04:00Late update for week ending Monday 4/11/11Dear Parents,
I am so sorry I did not send an update this last week but I had a sick
student and was at the clinic. He is well now...
Anyway, the girls had a good time on Monday as they went shopping
again in Santiago, ate at several fast food places: Pizza Hut, Papa
John's and McD. Yes it is a huge treat to do the American food thing.
They then went to an actual theater and saw a movie.
This last week for the boys was one of change. They moved up the hill
into TKB house and so were very very busy with cleaning, moving and
just getting situated. So they did have a little bit of down time but
not a lot. They also have new houseparents.
It has been raining and very windy these past few afternoons and
nights. We need the rain but the clothes don't get dry....:(
Hope you all are doing well.

--
Cindy Hundley MA, EMT
Escuela Caribe Medical Services Manager
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, West IndiesEscuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-43976128936061275952011-04-05T12:25:00.001-04:002011-04-05T12:25:30.676-04:00Weekly Update4/3 and 4/4/11
Dear Parents,
We have had a very sunny weekend and today (Tuesday) is windy and
cool. Six moms will be arriving soon for the week long mother's
working visit. Mrs. Seabrooke will be very busy for sure.
The boys' house had a great time on Monday when they headed to the
beautiful beach of Playa Grande. The sun was hot and the boys had a
blast. They then went to the place called Laguna Du Du where they
then jumped off cliffs into the fresh water. It is freezing cold
water for sure. UGH. Anyway, it was nice to get all the salt water
out of their suits and off their bodies. They then ate pizza, and
headed home. On Sunday afternoon they again played ping pong,
basketball, soccer and football. They got a lot of exercise.
The girls' house on Monday did a full day of planting seedling trees
(I hope that is the right term for this) by mixing soils, and placing
the seedlings into small bags. These are baby fruit trees. They
then went out to eat at Gilberto's chicken stand…If you have never had
Gilberto's well you really have missed out. It is excellent and could
put Colonel Chicken Fried to shame. Then on Sunday they enjoyed
tossing the football and they also set up the volleyball net, though
they never actually played volleyball. We are hoping that will change
soon.
I am asking for photos from the beach and also from the girls' last
out freeday and when I get them I will post them for your viewing
enjoyment.

--
Cindy Hundley MA, EMT
Escuela Caribe Medical Services Manager
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, West IndiesEscuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-4795327760759993882011-03-29T13:09:00.001-04:002011-03-29T13:09:35.644-04:00Escuela Caribe UpdateHello Parents,
Just wanted to catch you up on our week.
The boys this week on Sunday played ping pong in the afternoon for
physical education. Then on Monday some of the boys went to school
because they were behind in their school work while the other boys
went to town. They then came back and played games, ping pong and pla
que (a Dominican stick game). They had a great dinner of spagetti
with meat and some great bread.
The girls this week went to the waterfall and had fun jumping into the
water from about 20 feet high. They enjoyed the hike there and back.
They watched a movie on Sunday and on Monday also.
I will post photos of the girls' freeday as soon as I can.Escuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-90162863743522893482011-03-24T11:48:00.000-04:002011-03-24T11:49:06.102-04:00Update 3/24/113/24/11
Hello Parents,
It is Thursday and I waited to write and sum up the past few days
because last night we had Youth Group. A prospective staff member and
his wife were here and they are considering the job of Pastor here.
He led the youth group time and the kids seemed to enjoy themselves a
lot. We all were at the Sawyers' home for the meeting.
On Sunday both boys and girls houses played basketball together on our
basketball court. There was a lot of tough competition as our girls
really are go getters. Watch out boys.
Then each house took time to relax and enjoy the sun. The girls did
watch a movie and played the game RISK. The boys enjoyed just tossing
the football and playing games.
On Monday both the boys and girls headed to the river to go swimming,
play water games, tube the small rapids and also try their hand at the
kayak Mr. Frew had brought to the river. A lot of fun and laughter
was heard from the entire group. It then began to sprinkle a bit so
some of the river population headed back to campus.
We will be starting to have youth group each Wednesday from now on.
Last night the kids seemed to enjoy the time they spent together.
If you have not looked on the parent portal at the photos of the
recent retreat, please do so. They are great.
--
Cindy Hundley MA, EMT
Escuela Caribe Medical Services Manager
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, West IndiesEscuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-6015048844265967542011-03-19T10:41:00.001-04:002011-03-19T10:41:42.162-04:00Retreat updateRetreat Wrap Up: March 17, 2001
Hi Parents,
Just want to let you know what we did for retreat these last four
days. The theme for retreat is "Awakening". So there are dead
branches from trees all over campus and on them are sprouting "new
buds" made of paper and stuff….significant to our own awakening in the
spiritual realm. Some of the students asked why the dead trees were
used for decorations…..it took them a while to figure the symbolism
out.
Sunday: We all had breakfast together. The group from Sagemont
Church came down and was with us all these 4 days to do retreat
together. The other days we all got together by 10 am and did the
following. On Sunday was the only day we had to wake up early.
We did some games together to get to know each other and we were all
embarrassed together. We then did a lot of fun sports games and crazy
running around games. We had the Ten Commandments lecture after being
hot and tired and after that came LUNCH as we are were totally ready
for FOOD. We then had a time to just ask questions on spiritual
issues and discuss the answers. It was very insightful. After that
we had a choice to either take a nap or do devotions with the Sagemont
group. So each student picked what they wanted to do. Then we all
came together and did some group and team unity building games. We
headed back to the houses to take showers and get ready for DINNER.
Yes FOOD again. We ate and then had worship songs and Sagemont
brought their own band.. Yep pretty high tech for sure. Then someone
from Sagemont gave the nightly message and after that we broke up into
girls and guys and had a discussion on what we heard. Those students
who were on 3rd and 4th level were able to take an hour away with
staff members and do some fun stuff from 9 to 10 each night.
Most everyone got to head to bed though at 9 pm. So as you can see
our days were full as well as our nights.
We also were able to schedule a baptism service down at the river.
Students who received permission from their parents were baptized. We
had over 6 teens dedicate their lives to Christ during this retreat
and many rededicated their lives. I am sure if your teen was one of
these that they will share with you in the upcoming parent letter this
next week. After the time at the river, we then were given a
Hamburger/cheeseburger Bar B Q by the Sagemont group as well as
SomeMores around a huge bonfire. We also had a testimony time by both
staff and students.
The Lord is to be praised by all the changed lives over these past few days.

--
Cindy Hundley MA, EMT
Escuela Caribe Medical Services Manager
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, West IndiesEscuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198584883590379878.post-42880340922292990122011-03-18T13:28:00.001-04:002011-03-18T13:28:27.520-04:00Spring RetreatSpring Retreat March 13 to 16., 2001
Just wanted everyone to know that even though retreat is over, on
Friday night (18th) we are having a big Hamburger bash, Some Mores and
a campfire with a testamony time. campus... Four students had their fathers come down for the father's
working visit. They all had a great time together and discussed a lot
of intense issues. Photos have been posted that were taken duing the
fathers' visit.

This week has been sunny and bright with a bit of a breeze blowing.
The students had a great first week of classes and got the trimester
off to a good beginning.

Lance House: Sunday the entire house went to the river and jumped off
rocks and splashed in the river. They then returned to campus and
just had a laid back evening. On Monday several of the girls had
their nails done, several went to school to catch up on school work,
one worked off discipline hours and then they headed into town and had
lunch, ice cream and went shopping. They came home and did the girl
thing of dying their hair and then watched a movie, "The Notebook".

Thomas House: Sunday the guys walked around campus, relaxed and did
responsibilities and then played ping pong. They relaxed at their
house that evening. On Monday several boys had to attend school to
get caught up in their classes in the morning and then they all went
into town and had lunch and watched a movie in the evening.Escuela Caribe/Mountain View Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10127229195477588220noreply@blogger.com0
