Escuela Caribe Update

Hello Parents,
Just wanted to catch you up on our week.

The boys this week on Sunday played ping pong in the afternoon for
physical education. Then on Monday some of the boys went to school
because they were behind in their school work while the other boys
went to town. They then came back and played games, ping pong and pla
que (a Dominican stick game). They had a great dinner of spagetti
with meat and some great bread.

The girls this week went to the waterfall and had fun jumping into the
water from about 20 feet high. They enjoyed the hike there and back.
They watched a movie on Sunday and on Monday also.

I will post photos of the girls' freeday as soon as I can.

Update 3/24/11

3/24/11
Hello Parents,
It is Thursday and I waited to write and sum up the past few days
because last night we had Youth Group. A prospective staff member and
his wife were here and they are considering the job of Pastor here.
He led the youth group time and the kids seemed to enjoy themselves a
lot. We all were at the Sawyers' home for the meeting.

On Sunday both boys and girls houses played basketball together on our
basketball court. There was a lot of tough competition as our girls
really are go getters. Watch out boys.

Then each house took time to relax and enjoy the sun. The girls did
watch a movie and played the game RISK. The boys enjoyed just tossing
the football and playing games.

On Monday both the boys and girls headed to the river to go swimming,
play water games, tube the small rapids and also try their hand at the
kayak Mr. Frew had brought to the river. A lot of fun and laughter
was heard from the entire group. It then began to sprinkle a bit so
some of the river population headed back to campus.

We will be starting to have youth group each Wednesday from now on.
Last night the kids seemed to enjoy the time they spent together.

If you have not looked on the parent portal at the photos of the
recent retreat, please do so. They are great.

Retreat update

Retreat Wrap Up: March 17, 2001

Hi Parents,

Just want to let you know what we did for retreat these last four
days. The theme for retreat is "Awakening". So there are dead
branches from trees all over campus and on them are sprouting "new
buds" made of paper and stuff….significant to our own awakening in the
spiritual realm. Some of the students asked why the dead trees were
used for decorations…..it took them a while to figure the symbolism
out.

Sunday: We all had breakfast together. The group from Sagemont
Church came down and was with us all these 4 days to do retreat
together. The other days we all got together by 10 am and did the
following. On Sunday was the only day we had to wake up early.
We did some games together to get to know each other and we were all
embarrassed together. We then did a lot of fun sports games and crazy
running around games. We had the Ten Commandments lecture after being
hot and tired and after that came LUNCH as we are were totally ready
for FOOD. We then had a time to just ask questions on spiritual
issues and discuss the answers. It was very insightful. After that
we had a choice to either take a nap or do devotions with the Sagemont
group. So each student picked what they wanted to do. Then we all
came together and did some group and team unity building games. We
headed back to the houses to take showers and get ready for DINNER.
Yes FOOD again. We ate and then had worship songs and Sagemont
brought their own band.. Yep pretty high tech for sure. Then someone
from Sagemont gave the nightly message and after that we broke up into
girls and guys and had a discussion on what we heard. Those students
who were on 3rd and 4th level were able to take an hour away with
staff members and do some fun stuff from 9 to 10 each night.
Most everyone got to head to bed though at 9 pm. So as you can see
our days were full as well as our nights.

We also were able to schedule a baptism service down at the river.
Students who received permission from their parents were baptized. We
had over 6 teens dedicate their lives to Christ during this retreat
and many rededicated their lives. I am sure if your teen was one of
these that they will share with you in the upcoming parent letter this
next week. After the time at the river, we then were given a
Hamburger/cheeseburger Bar B Q by the Sagemont group as well as
SomeMores around a huge bonfire. We also had a testimony time by both
staff and students.

The Lord is to be praised by all the changed lives over these past few days.

Fathers Working Visit!!

What happened this week here on
campus...  Four students had their fathers come down for the father's
working visit.  They all had a great time together and discussed a lot
of intense issues.  Photos have been posted that were taken duing the
fathers' visit.

This week has been sunny and bright with a bit of a breeze blowing.
The students had a great first week of classes and got the trimester
off to a good beginning.

Lance House:  Sunday the entire house went to the river and jumped off
rocks and splashed in the river.  They then returned to campus and
just had a laid back evening.  On Monday several of the girls had
their nails done, several went to school to catch up on school work,
one worked off discipline hours and then they headed into town and had
lunch, ice cream and went shopping.  They came home and did the girl
thing of dying their hair and then watched a movie, "The Notebook".

Thomas House:  Sunday the guys walked around campus, relaxed and did
responsibilities and then played ping pong.  They relaxed at their
house that evening.  On Monday several boys had to attend school to
get caught up in their classes in the morning and then they all went
into town and had lunch and watched a movie in the evening.
